The early elementary years are the perfect time to introduce your child to the Bible and help them understand that God's Word is true, trustworthy, and relevant to their everyday lives. During these formative years, children are naturally curious and eager to learn, making this an ideal season to establish lifelong habits of reading, hearing, and applying God's Word. 

At The Bridge Church, we believe God's Word is the absolute Truth and final authority for our lives. We are committed to teaching the Bible because it has the power to transform hearts and lead people to follow Jesus. As parents, one of the greatest privileges and responsibilities God gives us is to help our children discover the truth, wisdom, and hope found in His Word. 

That's why the Bible Step is an important part of the Faith Path. Our desire is not simply for children to own a Bible, but to know how to use it, understand its importance, and begin building their lives upon its unchanging truth. By regularly reading Scripture together, talking about God's truth, and memorizing key verses as a family, you are helping your child develop a love for God's Word that can guide them for a lifetime. 

The Bible is more than a collection of stories. It is God's message to us, revealing who He is, how much He loves us, and His plan to rescue us through Jesus Christ. As children learn God's Word, they begin to understand His character, discover His promises, and learn what it means to follow Him.

Family discipleship does not require a theology degree or perfectly planned devotionals. Consistent, intentional moments in God's Word can have an eternal impact. Whether it is reading Scripture before bed, memorizing a verse at the dinner table, or talking about God's truth on the way to school, every opportunity plants seeds of faith in your child's heart. 

Ideas for the Bible Step 

  • Make receiving their first "Big Bible" a special milestone and celebration. 

  • Personalize their Bible with their name, decorations, tabs, or special pens for note-taking. 

  • Help your child learn the books of the Bible. 

  • Memorize a simple Bible verse together each month. 

  • Practice looking up verses together. 

  • Talk about what God's Word teaches about God's character. 

  • Ask, "What does this passage teach us about Jesus?" 

  • Treat the Bible with reverence and respect in your home. 

  • Read Scripture joyfully with and to your child. 

  • Pray through a Bible verse together. 

  • Encourage your child to bring their Bible to church each week. 

  • Allow your child to see you regularly reading God's Word. While Bible apps are helpful, there is something powerful about a child seeing a parent open and cherish a physical Bible. 

  • Keep a family Scripture memory verse displayed in your home. 

  • Celebrate milestones as your child learns verses, books of the Bible, or new Bible skills.
