One of the greatest privileges of parenting is helping your child understand and respond to the gospel. Around kindergarten, many children begin asking deeper questions about God, sin, forgiveness, and Jesus. The Gospel Conversations faith step is designed to help parents intentionally guide those conversations while remembering that every child develops spiritually at a different pace.
At The Bridge, we believe parents are the primary faith trainers in a child's life. As you faithfully model Christ, read Scripture together, pray, and talk about God in everyday moments, you are laying the foundation for future faith decisions (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).
How to Take This Step
Build a Gospel Foundation
Help your child learn who God is through Bible stories, worship, prayer, and everyday conversations about faith.
Watch for Readiness
Look for signs that your child is beginning to understand sin, forgiveness, and a personal relationship with Jesus. Avoid rushing a decision before they are ready.
Have Meaningful Conversations
Ask simple questions to help your child express what they believe and understand:
Do you believe God created everything and is King over everything?
Do you believe that all people have sinned and disobeyed God, including yourself?
Do you believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose again three days later?
If your child demonstrates a genuine understanding of these truths and expresses personal faith in Jesus, you can encourage them to take the next step.
Invite a Personal Response
When your child is ready, guide them in prayer. Rather than simply repeating words, encourage them to talk to God in their own words. Romans 10:9 can help shape that conversation: "God, I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe You raised Him from the dead."
