Around ages 16–17 is an ideal time to intentionally give your child a vision for their future as an emerging adult. That’s why we’ve created the Right of Passage step on the Faith Path. Challenging your teen to begin leaving behind the world of childhood while inviting them into emerging adulthood is an important part of helping them anticipate and prepare to embrace God’s plan for their future. 

A Rite of Passage event marks a transition from one stage of life to another and provides an opportunity to establish a new tone for your changing relationship with your teen. Your role begins to shift from primarily teacher to more of a coach as your teen takes on the greater freedoms and responsibilities that come with young adulthood. Let them know that you’ll be there to help them work through challenges, navigate the inevitable landmines, and offer wisdom and guidance as they begin taking greater ownership of their choices and their walk with God. 

But the Rite of Passage is more than a single event. Continue creating intentional one-on-one opportunities to connect, listen, encourage, and keep the lines of communication open as your relationship continues to grow and change in the months and years ahead.
